- WW I veteran from Patchogue, NY.
Individual: Swezey, Albert
Birth date: 10 May 1896
Death date: Jan 1963
Social Security #: 112-09-6685
Last residence: NY
State of issue: NY
One of Albert's grand children has contacted me and says his middle name is "Bennett". I am not sure where I first found the name "Benjamin" (It may have said Ben, and I assumed Benjamin), but I will now change it to Bennett.
I found this on the Internet:
Albert S Swezey
Birth: May. 10, 1896
Death: Dec. 14, 1962
Burial: Long Island National Cemetery *
Suffolk County
New York, USA
Plot: 2M, 1879
AND
Mary Elizabeth Swezey
Birth: Jul. 23, 1895
Death: Oct. 8, 1972
Burial: Long Island National Cemetery *
Suffolk County
New York, USA
Plot: 2M, 1879
This would appear to be Albert and his wife Mary, but I notice that his death date is different then the SS Death Index, though not by much, and his middle initial is incorrect, but other than that, everything matches.
I found a listing in the 1920 census for an Albert Sweezey, age 24 (born 1896), living in Babylon, Suffolk Co., as a boarder to a Frederick Milligan. I believe this is the same person, but Albert was supposedly married in 1919. Maybe the marriage date is off by one year, and they were actually married in Nov 1920.
I just found Albert's wife Mary in the 1920 census, living with her step-mother Bridget. Mary is listed as "Mary Swezey", so I guess they are married, even though Mary is listed as 'single'.
1930 Census - Living in Southampton, Suffolk Co., NY (33), with wife Mary (34), and children: Mary (9), Audrey (7), and William (5). Married 10 years. Everyone born in NY, except Mary's parents who were born in Ireland. He is a 'House Carpenter'. Listed as "Benjamin Swezey".
This census says his middle name is "Benjamin", as did my original source. I am not sure what his correct name is now.
The following Obituary is from the local Sag Harbor Newspaper:
"Albert Bennett Swezey died at this residence, Laurel Lane, here, December 14 after an illness of seven months with cancer. Born in Patchogue May 10, 1896 he was the son of Evi and Mary Weeks Swezey. November 25, 1919 he was married to the formaer Mary E. Kelly who with their three children: Mrs. Mary Renda, Shelton, Conn., Mrs Audry E. Owens, Marion, Ohio and William G. are among the survivors.
A carpenter by trade, Mr. Swezey was a member of the Sag Harbor Fire Department. Fire Chief Gene Garypie accompanied by Assistant Chiefs Robert Schiavoni and Arthur Schellinger and members conducted a service Monday evening. Fire Department Chaplain, Father Drab led the service."
I found a 1918 Draft Registration Card for an Albert Bennett Swezey, born 10 May 1897 in Patchogue, Suffolk Co., NY, currently living in Bridge Hampton, NY. He is an Engineer for the E.L. Phillips Co. He is Single, medium height, medium build, grey eyes, brown hair.
I found the following marriage listing at the German Genealogy Group on the Internet: "Swezey Albert Bennett Kelly Mary Elizabeth 2 701 8388 Nov 25 1919 S200 K400 ". This is from the Suffolk County, NY marriage listing.
