- 1830 Census - Brookhaven, living with wife and a boy born 1825-1830.
1840 Census - Brookhaven, living with wife and 3 children. I see Huldah, plus the boy I see in the 1830 census, plus another girl age 5-10 years old. Based on this information I am going to add 2 more children. I have a Calvin Sweezey born 1827 in my database that could be Apollos' son. Calvin's widow in 1865 is living close by Apollos in Brookhaven. I just found a newspaper obit for Apollos dated 1895 and it says his grandson is Seymour Sweezey of Patchogue. Since Seymour is Calvin's son, I am putting Calvin as Apollos' son.
1850 Census - Oysterman - Brookhaven (44), living with wife Eliza (39), and daughter Huldah (13). All born in NY. Also living with them is a Hannah Hulse (56). I wonder if Hannah could be Apollos' sister?
1860 Census - Fisherman - Patchogue (55), living with wife Eliza (52).
1865 Census - Living in Brookhaven with wife Eliza (57), son Isaac M. (25), Isaac's wife Kate (23), and their children: Mary C. (3-1/12), and Laticia (1-6/12). It says that Eliza was born in Suffolk Co., and had 4 children. It says that Apollos had 4 children, and this is his second marriage. Kate was born in Ireland, and has 2 children. If the information about Eliza is correct, then I am missing a number of children. But where are they? There are no children listed in the 1850 or 1860 census that could be hers. Of course unless the information about his first wife in not correct, and the children that I do show for Apollos belong to wife Eliza.
1870 Census - Farmer - Patchogue. Living with wife Eliza and Huldah Rockwell aged 33 and Hannah Hulse age 56. Huldah is his daughter from his first marriage. I am not sure who Hannah is. It could be Eliza's sister, they are about the same age.
It is possible that Huldah is not his daughter from the 1850 census. I have been unsuccessful in finding her in any other census.
1880 Census - Bayman - Brookhaven Town. Listed as "Paulus" (77), with 3rd wife Freelove, age 66. Everyone born in NY. He is a 'Bayman'.
Apollos is buried in the Patchogue Waverly Avenue Cemetery next to his son Calvin. There are no other headstones near him. I am not sure where his wives are buried.
I just discovered that his wife is also buried in the same cemetery. She is on the list at the Historical Office, but I did not see her headstone. Maybe she is buried near her parents.
His marriage to Freelove Furman is reported in "The Republican Watchman".
